Student Income

Some student income is taken into consideration when being assessed for mean-tested benefits.

Please find detailed below student income that is taken into consideration for means-tested benefit purposes:-

Undergraduate Students

    Assembly Learning Grant for ‘new system’ students who started their course in September 2006.

    Dependants’ Grants

    Financial Contingency Fund – Except payments made for items other than basic living costs.

    HE Maintenance Grant for ‘new system’ students who started their course in September 2006.

    Institutional bursaries – Except payments for tuition and course costs

    Nursing and Midwife Bursaries – Except £390* for books and equipment travel and £303* for travel.

    Social Work Bursary – Except payments for non living costs such as travel or tuition fee costs.

    Student loan for living costs – Except £390* for books and equipment; £303* for travel; £10 a week; any contribution to loan from partner or parents.

NB Payments under the Parents Learning Allowance and/or Childcare grant are disregarded in full for undergraduate and NHS students.

Postgraduate Students

    Institutional bursaries – Except payments made for tuition and course costs

    Career Development Loans & Professional Study Loans – Except payments made for tuition and course costs.

    Research Council Maintenance Grants – Except £390* for books and equipment; £303* for travel.

    Social Work Bursaries
